Pain Appointment Checklist: Three Changes to Track Before You Visit

Pain can change from one appointment to the next, and those changes are often more useful than a single pain score. Before a pain-management visit, take a few minutes to note what is different now compared with your last visit.

1. Track what you can and cannot do

Write down any everyday activity that has become easier or harder, such as walking through a store, sitting through a meal, climbing stairs, driving, sleeping, or completing household tasks. Functional changes give your provider context about how symptoms are affecting daily life.

2. Record new patterns

Note whether discomfort is now occurring at a different time of day, in a different location, or with a different type of activity. If symptoms travel, come and go, or change with position, include that too.

3. Update medication and care changes

Bring an accurate list of current medications, recent imaging, therapy, injections, urgent-care visits, or other treatment changes since your last appointment. Do not stop or change prescribed medication based on an online article; discuss concerns with the prescribing clinician.

A short written checklist can make a visit more focused and help you remember the details you wanted to discuss. Canyon Health provides pain-management care in Tucson. If ongoing pain is limiting daily activities, you can contact the clinic to request an appointment.
